If you're anything like me, you spend 88% of your time on the internet looking up all things cat related! How can you resist all the cute kitty photos??? And I'm always looking for a new toy for Leska. So I thought I would list 6 of the websites I like the most for when I am cat inspired! Here they are:-

There are so many amazing artists on Zazzle, I want to buy all the cat stuff waaaaahhhh! I especially love this artist - Partymonster. Have a look at the amazing designs!
Leska is an indoors cat but we let him out each day for an hour or so on a harness and leash. It took a couple months for him to get used to it - after practising regularly he now knows that his red harness means he gets to go outside. As soon as he sees us picking it up he meows expectantly and sits still so we can put it on, purring loudly as we click it into place. The first thing he does outside is roll around in the sun! Here are some pictures from the weekend.....
The other weekend I met an artist at the local markets who does pet portraits! We chatted about our cats and I ended up purchasing some prints of other cats she has drawn. They are just beautiful. She can do a portrait of your pet as well, all you have to do is email her a photo.
Wonkie Knee Art There are many quirky things to see and experience in Japan, that's why I love it so much! Our first trip to Japan was in 2012 and I had heard about cat cafes before this time however had not specifically planned to visit one whilst we were there. To our surprise we stumbled across one just around the corner from our hotel in Shinjuku - the Calico Cat Cafe (website is in Japanese). And cats aren't the only creature worshipped in this way in Japan; they also have rabbit, goat, owl and reptile cafes just to name a few. Many people in Japan live in apartments and cannot have a pet, and subsequently these cafes are very popular (there are at least 39 cat cafes in Tokyo alone!). It is well known that chilling out with a furry friend can reduce your stress levels and make you feel happy, so it's no wonder people will pay for a bit of feline time! This concept is slowly finding its way into western culture; a cat cafe has recently opened in Melbourne Australia and is proving to be very popular. I haven't visited the Melbourne cat cafe yet but I plan to in the near future! Back to the Calico Cat Cafe. As was the case everywhere we went in Tokyo, we found this little place of kitty heaven to be welcoming, friendly and warm. It was very obvious the staff had close, trusting relationships with the cats (apparently 52 of them!) and only had their best interests in mind. There are strict rules in place to ensure high standards of animal welfare (for example not allowing young children and making sure people are aware not to disturb sleeping cats). The whole place is decked out with beds, toys, ramps, hiding places etc making it a cat heaven. The cats were happy and relaxed and if it appeared they didn't want to be social any more, they were taken out to a quieter area to chill out for a bit. We were able to purchase coffee, cake and little chicken treats to feed the cats. We probably spent more than two hours in the Calico Cat Cafe and will definitely be going back when we return to Japan next year. There was a gorgeous little Munchkin cat we would like to meet again, if he is still there! A definite must for animal lovers visiting Japan! So Leska turned ONE in October and I knew I wanted to make him a cupcake (even though my husband thought I was CRAZY!). I did some research and found a recipe for a tuna cupcake! This is the recipe: Birthday Cake for Cats Makes: 2 small cakes | Prep time: 20 minutes Ingredients: 1 egg 1/2 can of tuna in springwater, drained 2 tbs flour 2 tbs grated cheese defrosted cooked prawn, to garnish Directions: Preheat oven to 180c (350f). Break up tuna in a medium bowl. Lightly beat egg in a separate bowl, then combine with tuna. Add in flour and cheese. Stir to combine. Scoop batter into cupcake tin or silicone cups. Bake for 15 minutes. CREDIT - Blunder Construction Leska loves baked goods so I knew he'd like this one! He's always trying to eat human food rather than his food meant for cats! He absolutely loved the prawn I put on top however I had to break the cupcake up a bit for him and he snacked on it throughout the day (I think it was a bit much!). I would recommend this recipe though, it is very easy even for the novice cook :-) So Leska loves eating his dry cat biscuits, and he was probably eating more than he should and we were just filling up his bowl whenever it was empty. I thought I have to find something to make him work for his food! So I did a bit of research and found the Catit Senses Food Maze. Basically you put the dry food in the top and your cat has to reach in on the different levels to pull his food out or push it down the levels to the bottom. I found some good reviews online - basically the consensus was that if your cat loves food and likes playing games they will enjoy it. However there are some flaws in the design such as the open top and that it can be knocked over. I bought the food maze from Pet Barn who have this to say about the product - Catit Design Senses Food Maze allow the cat to eat from the food tray after they move food or treats through the maze by pawing through side openings. Challenge your cat's abilities by rotating the adjustable disk to decrease the opening for higher levels of difficulty. It also features a accu-pressure mat around the maze providing your cat with pressure point paw massage. I thought (for some reason) that my cat was quite smart, and that he would figure the thing out in about 10 minutes. But no, it actually took him about a WEEK to understand what to do. I had to keep showing him how to get his food out. Anyway, now he loves it. I had to put a dish over the top otherwise he would eat his food straight out of the top. And he has knocked it over once. Overall he is eating less - anything that requires any kind of effort will slow a lazy house cat down! 5 stars. Video of Leska using his food maze |
